I woke one morning to see the golden light of day shining into my window through the branches of the tall elm tree growing outside of my second-story bedroom. I blinked slowly as my bright, hazel eyes adjusted to the light, and then stretched my arms above my head. As a wide-mouthed yawn escaped from me, an owl swooped into my bedroom, bearing the Daily Prophet. I fumbled in my desk for a few Knuts, and then tossed them to the bird in exchange for my paper. The owl flew away as I unfolded the paper and began to read today's breaking news.
Another disappearance, this time it was a head ministry official. It really came as no shock to me, though. These disappearances were becoming more and more common. That is not to say that I was not concerned, for I was indeed. Disappearances were never a good sign, especially in the quantity occurring as of recently.
There were rumors amongst the community that the dark wizard Voldemort had risen to power, his powers stronger than even those of Grindelwald. It was said that he was gathering forces, amassing an army with which he planned to overthrow the entire wizarding community. No one was safe, the rumors said. It occurred to me then that maybe these disappearances were not a coincidence, that maybe this army wasn't just a rumor.
How could lives so wonderful ever be threatened by dark magic? Were we not safe from harm within our homes? But perhaps that was where I was wrong. Darkness has a funny way of bleeding into the light without detection. Maybe it really was as they said: no one was safe. Danger could be anywhere; within your enemies, your family, even amongst your friends. Who could you trust? Who could you count on to protect you?
I shook my head and folded the newspaper up and tossing it onto my desk. It was far too early to be analyzing my life. And besides, rumors were merely that and nothing more. As I walked to my closet to dress for another day in my life, I couldn't help but think, "Are our lives nothing but illusions, distractions to keep us otherwise occupied whilst the darkness consumes us?"

The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches...Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies....and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not...and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives…The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies...[/align]
Word of Sybill Trelawney’s prophecy has finally reached the anticipant ears of the Dark Lord. The words concerned him of course and he quickly began to plan his attack, the attack which would destroy the child whose powers would one day rival his own. Whilst he was deeply submerged in planning the ultimate assault on the child, he had a sudden epiphany. Why should he listen to this prophecy? Did the prophecy not say that it was he who set the course of events into motion? If he were to ignore its predictions, there would be nothing for him to fear. If no child were ever marked as his equal, none would ever be able to rival his power. He rounds up his Death Eaters to wreak havoc on those who stand in his way; bolstered with the knowledge that none can stand to stop him.
On the other side, Albus Dumbledore assumes that the Dark Lord plans to act upon the prophecy, for Tom Riddle was always a prideful boy who would not allow this young child to be his undoing. He quickly rounds together the Order of the Phoenix and they begin to plot various ways of thwarting his plans. Unfortunately for the Order, you can’t trust everyone. Within their midst, there are traitors, those who would sell any of their friends to Lord Voldemort in exchange for the smallest promise of power.
Which side will you join? Will you stand by Dumbledore and help him find a way to end Lord Voldemort’s reign of terror? Or will you choose to stand by Voldemort and have ultimate power? This is the time to decide. This is Evanescent Diversion.
