It was Saterday as Hermione sat down near the lake the wind blowing in her hair. She was wearing her uniform but just her skirt and white blouse. She ditched her cloak, vest, tie, socks, and shoes. The wind was blowing a nice chilly breeze. She was just sitting in the sand and thinking about what had happened within the first week of school. We'd arrived on Monday and the minute we'd arrived the drama started. Cedric had obviously lost his fake friends. But Scoot, Ed, and Peter stood beside him. For that she was their biggest fan. He deserved that. But others hadn't been so kind. Hermione wasn't one to gossip but that didn't mean that she didn't have ears and eyes. There'd been gossip and rumors Cho and Cedric were done. But she couldn't be sure. All she knew was that they weren't acting very friendly lately and Hermione didn't like the way Cho looked at Harry lately. She didn't trust that girl. Then there was Harry. Seamus had been positively gitty lately. The accusations against Harry were ridiculous. He was always talking about how Harry was a liar and he just wanted fame. He always rambles on about how his mum is right and we shouldn't believe Harry. She was sad because she thought they were friends. Then there was Dumbledore. The Daily Prophet were having a field day around him. He was supposedly trying to steal the minister's job and take of the ministry. It was proposterous. They all didn't deserve this and Hermione was going to try as hard as she could to fix it. Not to mention the whole school was struggling with their newest problem, Umbridge.

It was only the first week of school, and things were already going downhill for Cedric, and Harry and Dumbledore, most likely. Why did everyone think they were lying about Voldemort? Half of the wizarding community was behind them, while the other half didn't want anything to do with them. It was all because of Fudge and The Daily Prophet. They were the liars, but people believed them more. Cedric lost almost all of his friends because they didn't believe him. Plus, Cho, even though she supported his and Harry's beliefs, had broken up with him for some unknown reason. He needed somewhere to get away from all of the stuff going on at school, and he figured the lake would be best.
He was out of his uniform, wearing Muggle clothes and sneakers. As he walked to the water, he stopped briefly to take off his shoes and socks so he wouldn't get any sand in them. When he looked back up, he saw an unmistakable head of brown hair near the water. He sat down next to her and said, "Hey, Hermione."

Hermione jumped at the sound of someone coming up behind her and continued to be on edge realising it was Cedric. Still, after 2 years of knowing him, he intimidated her and she couldn't figure out why. That's what annoyed her the most. Why couldn't she, as smart as she was, realise why he rendered her unable to think at times. Oh, never mind, some things might not be meant to be figured out. "Hey Cedric. How's NEWT year been so far?" Hermione asked as he sat down next to her in his muggle clothes. She also was wearing muggle clothes. A white tank with light blue jeans. Her hair had turned out decent today. It wasn't exceptionally bushy like most of the time, and for that she was thankful.

When Hermione asked him how the year was going, he let out a small chuckle. "Oh, it's fine," He lied. "Aside from losing my friends, girlfriend, and Voldemort's return. Besides those, I'm just having a great time," He said. He looked down at the water for a moment, remembering how he saved Cho from the merpeople last year for the Triwizard Tournament. He saved her life, and she broke up with him. Sure, that seems about right. He looked back at Hermione and asked, "And how's OWL year going for you?"

"Just super fantastic." Hermione laughed sarcastically. "Aside from me deciding to take every class, having to explain why I believe you guys, and being tortured by Malfoy I'm just great. But to be fair Malfoy has always tortured me." Hermione smiled at him wondering why he talked to her. As Malfoy frequently pointed out she had bushy hair, buck teeth(Hermione managed to fix those), and his new point was that she was flat-chested. But the point she didn't understand was that her and Cedric at least used to come from different worlds. He was just recently thrown into hers. She felt terrible at first but now she was shocked to realise that pretty boy, as the twins called him, wasn't at all what she expected. He was nice and intelligent. Finally someone who could keep up with her. It was refreshing.

Cedric shook his head when Hermione said the name Malfoy. Just because someone was a pureblood, it didn't give them the right to harrass other people. "That Malfoy kid's a real jerk," He said. While Malfoy had never actually done anything to him, he knew what he did to other students. The only time it seemed he was nice was when he supported Cedric last year for the tournament. Even then, it was probably only because of Harry. "Wait, you took every class? Not even I did that," He said. Cedric was intelligent, but he'd never dream of taking all the classes.

"But you almost took all of them." Hermione smiled hitting him playfully in the shoulder. When he made his point about Malfoy she was happy to be confirmed he didn't like his distant relative. Ron and Hermione had a debate about it. She know Cedric wouldn't like him. He's so mean and Cedric is the farthest thing from mean. But Ron thought since their Cedric's mum and Malfoy's dad were cusin they had to like each other. I wan't to ask him if it was even true they were related but chickened out. "So how're you adjusting to your new life. If that's asking to personal a question you don't have to answer. I just heard... well.. erm.. that some things ...er... happened when you returned to school."

"Yeah, but I figured I wasn't smart enough to take every single class there is in the school," Cedric said. "Plus, I didn't think I'd have enough time to get from class to class in time. But you're like a genius. I'm sure you've figured out a way to be there on time." When Hermione asked about the things that happened to him, he was confused for a second. "Things?" He repeated. "Nothing too bad happened to me. Well, I mean, like I said about my friends and Cho, that's about the only thing. I was made Head Boy and Quidditch captain. It's not that bad."

"Don't underestimate yourself Cedric." Hermione stared at him stright on and held his gaze. "Your one of the most intelligent people I've come across. And I hope you know that Harry, Ron, and I are going to stick by you. Even when others won't." When she had finished she looked down blushing. She hadn't meant to be so intense. But she meant every word.

Cedric smiled a bit when Hermione said he was one of the smartest people she knew. He knew he was smart, but didn't think of himself as that smart. "Thanks, Hermione," He said. "I guess I have a few real friends. Maybe for the first time."

"I guess that's a wake up call for pretty boy Diggory." I laughed then scooped up a handful of water that had come up with the tide to brush our toes as we lay side by side and flung the water at him. "Wake up Ced." She giggled at the shocked look on his face. He proceeded to fling some back at her until they were in an all out war and drenched from head to toe.
